What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative and is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.

The NDIS gives people with disability choice and control to get the supports they need, when & where they are needed.

The NDIS supports people with disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and employment and will focus on removing many of the barriers faced by people living with disability and their families and carers.

Mallee Family Care is a registered NDIS service provider. We support the NDIS and are committed to providing services which empower the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our communities
.
The NDIS will roll out in Far West NSW from 1 July 2017 and in the Mallee from 1 January 2019.

Who can access the NDIS?
If you are a person with disability who wishes to participate in the NDIS, you must first be assessed against the access requirements. Full access requirements are available here.

Some of the basic eligibility requirements are:
  • You must be Australian citizen, hold permanent residency or hold a protected special category visa.
  • You must be under 65 years old.
  • You must usually need support from a person or equipment to do everyday things for yourself because of an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent.
  • You must have an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent (lifelong) and that stops you from doing everyday things by yourself.
  • You must have an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent (lifelong); or be a child under 6 years of age with a developmental delay and the delay means you usually need more help with your self-care, communication, learning or motor skills than another child of the same age.

What help is available under the NDIS?
Everyone with a disability has different needs, preferences and aspirations.
Information on the types of assistance that is available under the NDIS can be found here.
